Alpacas are sheared in mid-May every year. This is obviously done to harvest the fleece to make products. In addition the alpaca would overheat if the fleece was kept.
We have raw fleece blankets available as supply lasts. We also have carded batts ready to spin and spun yarn available.
Our farm store is open by appointment. We also plan to attend various winter farmers markets and holiday fairs as time permits.
Raw fleece is skirted where debris is removed, washed and dried. The fiber is then picked, carded and spun. Finally it is knitted into products that we sell at the Farm store.
A majority of our fiber is skirted, and sent to a fiber co-op. This fiber is then made into machine made items. This co-op is located in Fall River, Massachusetts.
These items allow you to have alpaca products at a somewhat lower cost as compared to hand made hand knit.
